The role of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in London’s green and fair recovery

The London Sustainable Development Commission launch a report to explore how the SDGs help cities recover by creating jobs, reducing inequalities, and improving healthcare, housing and the environment | 31st July 2020

James is a London Sustainable Development Commissioner. The London Sustainable Development Commission (LSDC) is made up of experts who provide independent advice to the Mayor of London on his sustainable development duty.

The LSDC believes the SDGs provide a crucial way for cities to develop more integrated, systems-based approaches to the complex, interconnected challenges we face. The SDGs are supported by a set of indicators to monitor performance and offer a ‘co benefits’ approach: helping decision makers identify and deliver fairer, greener, prosperous cities - instead of trading individuals off against one another.

The LSDC is now working to understand London's progress against the SDGs.
